Importing Teak Wall Panels from Indonesia: MOQ, Shipping & Documents

Indonesia, and Jepara in Central Java in particular, is one of the world’s main sources of teak woodwork. Importing directly from a manufacturer gives you better pricing, custom sizes and full traceability. It also raises practical questions: how to order samples, what the minimum order is, how long production takes, and which documents clear customs in your country. This guide answers them.

Step 1: Shortlist designs and order samples

Start with our teak wall cladding collections or the catalogue. Pick two to four designs and ask for sample panels. Seeing the real grain and colour matters, because reclaimed teak varies from lot to lot. Samples are sent by courier (DHL, FedEx or similar) and usually arrive within a week in Europe, the US or South Africa.

Step 2: Get a per-square-metre quote

Send us three things:

  • the design(s) and colourway,
  • total wall area in m², with 5–10% extra for cutting and colour matching,
  • your destination port (for example Rotterdam, Hamburg, Felixstowe, Los Angeles, New York, Durban, Lagos or Mombasa).

Most panels are packed so that one box covers 1 m², which makes quantities easy to calculate.

Step 3: MOQ and lead time

Minimum orders are project-based. We regularly supply single hotel or restaurant projects as well as distributors ordering full containers. Production lead time depends on the design and quantity, and we confirm it in writing on the proforma invoice after sample approval. Custom sizes, colourways and carving motifs are possible because every panel is made to order.

Step 4: Shipping and Incoterms

We ship from Central Java (Port of Tanjung Emas, Semarang) by sea freight:

  • LCL (shared container) for smaller project orders.
  • FCL 20ft / 40ft for distributors and large projects. A 20ft container holds roughly 840 m² of our standard 500 × 200 mm panels (about 1,680 m² in a 40ft); thicker 3D designs take more space.

Common terms are FOB Semarang (you appoint the forwarder) or CIF / CFR to your port (we book the freight). Typical sea transit is about 4–6 weeks to Northern Europe and the US and about 3–5 weeks to East and South Africa, depending on routing.

Step 5: Export documents by destination

DestinationKey documents and rules
All shipmentsCommercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, SVLK V-Legal document, certificate of origin, fumigation / phytosanitary certificate where required, ISPM 15 treated packaging
European UnionEUDR due diligence data including plot geolocation (see our EUDR guide), REX statement on origin for possible GSP preference, FSC claim on the invoice for certified lots
United StatesLacey Act plant product declaration filed by the importer: we supply species (Tectona grandis), country of harvest and quantity. FSC-certified lots available for LEED and green-building projects
United KingdomUK Timber Regulation due diligence; SVLK V-Legal is strong legality evidence
Africa (e.g. South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria)Certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate and pre-shipment inspection where the destination requires it. Check requirements with your clearing agent before we book

Step 6: Payment

A typical structure is a deposit to start production and the balance before shipment or against copy documents. We invoice in USD and can issue a proforma invoice for your bank or project budget.

Why buy direct from a Jepara manufacturer?

  • In-house production since 2011, about 2,000 m³ of timber capacity per year.
  • Legal and certified timber: SVLK, FSC-C141539 and amfori BSCI social audit.
  • Reclaimed teak specialists: 50+ year-old teak from dismantled Javanese houses, teak root and bark designs you won’t find in big-box stores.
  • Customisation: sizes, finishes and private-label packing for distributors.

FAQ

Can I mix several designs in one container?

Yes. Mixed containers are common for distributors and multi-room projects.

Do teak wall panels need fumigation?

The panels are kiln-dried and treated. Many destinations still require ISPM 15 treated pallets or a phytosanitary certificate. We arrange this as standard.

Do you work with interior designers and architects?

Yes. We can send samples and technical data sheets and quote per project.
