A beautiful natural wall panel is only as good as its installation. With the right preparation, teak and coconut shell panels install like any premium wall finish — and with simple care, they stay beautiful for decades. Here is the process we recommend for every project, based on 14+ years of shipping panels to Europe, the US and Asia.
Before you start: what you need
- Panels (ordered per sqm, +5–10% for cutting waste)
- Wood adhesive or construction adhesive suitable for natural wood/stone
- Spirit level, measuring tape, pencil
- Saw or grinder (for cutting panels), sandpaper for edges
- Optional: clear matte sealant for humid rooms
Step 1 — Prepare the wall
The wall must be dry, clean, flat and structurally sound. Fill large holes and remove dust or grease. For coconut shell mosaics (4–13 mm thick), tiles can fix directly onto smooth painted walls — no structural work needed. For wood planks on very uneven walls, level the surface first.
Step 2 — Plan the layout
Measure the wall and mark the centre. Start from the middle and work outwards so cut panels land at the edges. Check the panels’ moisture content is adapted to the room (our panels ship at 10% ± 2%); let boxes acclimatise in the room for 24–48 hours before installing.
Step 3 — Apply adhesive and fix panels
Apply adhesive to the back of each panel (or the wall) with a notched trowel, press firmly, and check with a spirit level. Keep joints tight and aligned — for interlock systems (Teak Interlock) the joints self-align. Use spacers if you want consistent gaps. Wipe away excess adhesive immediately.
Step 4 — Cut and finish edges
Measure twice, cut once: use a fine-tooth saw for wood panels and a tile saw/grinder for coconut mosaics. Sand cut edges lightly. At corners and outlets, cut with the template of the obstruction.
Step 5 — Seal (optional, for humid rooms)
For bathrooms and kitchens, apply a clear matte wood sealer (wood) or a stone sealer (coconut shell) after installation, especially in wet zones. This protects the surface without changing the natural look.
How to care for your panels
- Dust regularly with a soft brush or vacuum nozzle — the fastest way to keep 3D panels looking sharp.
- Avoid wet cloths on unfinished wood; use a barely damp cloth and dry immediately.
- Refresh wood tone every 1–2 years with a light natural-oil treatment.
- Coconut shell: clean with a soft dry cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Protect from long sun exposure with curtains or UV glass if the wall gets direct afternoon sun for years.
- Indoor climate: keep the room ventilated; avoid extreme humidity swings.
FAQ
How long does installation take? A skilled installer covers roughly 1–2 sqm per hour for wood panels and up to 2–3 sqm per hour for mesh-backed coconut tiles.
Can the panels be removed and reused? Panels fixed with adhesive are not designed for reuse; they are a permanent finish.
Do you provide installation guidance? Yes — every order includes fixing guidance, and our team answers questions on WhatsApp during your install.
